Just curious...how did this all come about for you, taking the reigns of the writing The Destroyer?  Did you know Warren beforehand?  Win a competition?

When you were cranking out books for Destroyer, were you two working together (either on the books or even in say, an office)?

Were you ever nervous that there were big shoes to fill and that you might not be able to pull it off, especially after fans learned of you and began writing you?

I wrote to Dick Sapir years ago looking to write a Destroyer.  I spoke to Dick a couple of times on the phone and then heard nothing from him again.  I found out later that, sadly, he had passed away.  I eventually wrote to Warren, Warren put me in touch with Will Murray who had taken over writing the books by that time, then I sat on the sidelines for a lot of years before the Gold Eagle job opened up.  That's the Reader's Digest version.  I've written about this in more detail a couple of times elsewhere -- maybe even on this site -- but haven't the time or energy to go searching.  But this is pretty much the story.

We've only spoken on the phone a couple of times and in person twice.  We do most of our communicating through email.  We're tres modern.

Probably.  But that's a long time ago and who can remember that far back?  I do remember the day I actually got the Gold Eagle job.  No nerves, just really excited.  And once I actually got the job my writing improved.  No more fooling around, this was the real deal.  I had to prove I could do it.

So, was it a job through Gold Eagle?  If so, how did that affect you with the switch to Tor?
